Buenaventura is located two hours or 128 kilometers (80 miles) from the capital city, next to a town called Río Hato, along the beaches of Playa Blanca, in the province of Coclé. The Pan-American Highway will get you there by car.
There is an international airport, Río Hato Airport, also known as Scarlett Martínez International Airport, a brand-new airport located in Río Hato, just 15 minutes from Buenaventura, which is used by charter companies from all over the world.
Rio Hato has a very modern Super 99 (supermarket), an Arrocha Pharmacy, a Novey (hardware store) and a National Car Rental, among other small businesses.
Coronado
People who live in Buenaventura often go to Coronado for obvious reasons. Río Hato is only 30 minutes or 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Coronado, a coastal city in the province of Panama Oeste. In Coronado you will find a number of popular Panama shops, including restaurants and shopping centers, with all types of food, clothing and other amenities, such as a cinema with movies in both Spanish and English.
Corredor de las Playas (Beach Corridor)
The Beach Corridor (Corredor de las Playas) will become the most expensive road that Panamanians have ever paid and it is on its way to completion.
The Pan-American Highway is currently the quickest and cheapest way that Panamanians have to reach the beautiful beaches that their country has to offer on the Pacific side west of Panama City. Construction to expand the highway to a six-lane road in the 32.65-kilometer stretch from La Chorrera to Santa Cruz (the initial stretch from the city) will greatly ease the flux of traffic to and from the beaches, which is getting intense because the number of Panamanians and foreigners who decide to spend more time there or even live there is increasing exponentially.
